Windows Sound Problems
- Microsoft lists a variety of common sound problems for Windows. These include (but are not limited to) not hearing sound through either the computer's speakers or a set of headphones, skipping sounds, distorted or scratchy sounds and the computer freezing when a sound is played.
- "Fix it" is an online service designed by Microsoft. By clicking the "Fix it" button (see Resources), you can access an online wizard to step you through repairing your sound issues.
- If the "Fix it" wizard hasn't solved your issue, you'll need to reinstall or update your sound driver. Find your sound card manufacturer by clicking "Start" and "Run," then type "dxdiag" and click "OK." Click on the "Sound" tab, then go to "Name" > "Driver" and look for "Provider." You'll need to go to your specific company's website and download and install the newest version of the driver.
