Backup and Encryption Software
- BackupGenie (free to use) and Backup 2009 Pro (30-day trial, $55.00 to buy) are two types of backup software. Encryption Shield (30-day trial, $34.95 to buy) and Sophos Free Encryption (free to use) are two types of encryption software.
- Sophos Free Encryption features integrated data compression, allowing for encrypted files to conserve hard-drive space. Encryption Shield allows users to encrypt data with powerful 256-bit encryption methods. Along with its backup features, Backup 2009 Pro allows users to create partitions. BackupGenie allows users to specify particular times to perform automatic backups.
- Excluding Sophos Free Encryption (Windows 2000, XP, Vista, XP 64-bit, Vista 64-bit, 7, and 7 64-bit only), each of the aforementioned programs are available on all Windows operating systems. Encryption Shield has additional usage requirements of 8 MB RAM or higher, 6 MB of available hard-drive space, an Intel Pentium processor running at 90 MHz or higher, a VGA monitor or better and a mouse. Backup 2009 Pro requires that users have at least 256 MB RAM. Each program has a relatively minor download size of between 759 KB (kilobytes) to 7.9 MB (megabytes).
