How to Replace the Battery in a Plymouth Neon
- 1). Find the battery on the driver's side near the front bumper.
- 2). Remove the metal bar that holds the battery in place with a flathead screwdriver.
- 3). Remove the negative cable first and then disconnect the positive cable from the battery terminal. Use pliers or a battery terminal puller.
- 4). Lift the battery out of the compartment. Keep your gloves on at all times to avoid getting acid on your hands. Safely dispose of the battery at an auto parts store or a recycling center.
- 5). Use a wire brush to clean the surface that holds the battery. Wipe it down with a damp cloth and let it dry.
- 6). Clean the insides of the connector cables with a pointed wire brush and dry them off with an old cloth you can throw away. Wear glasses or goggles to prevent acid from splashing in your eyes.
- 7). Place the new battery on the shelf. Attach the correct cable on each terminal and tighten it securely with pliers or a socket wrench.
