    • 1). Click the Windows "Start" button on the computer that contains your private information. Click the "Control Panel" button. In the opened window, click "Administrative Tools" and then double-click "Computer Management."

    • 2). Click the "Shares" icon on the left. This lists all your openly shared folders on the computer. Right-click the folder you want to secure and select "Properties." This opens a configuration window.

    • 3). Click the "Share Permissions" tab. Click the "Everyone" group and click "Remove." This removes access to the Everyone group, which means no one can access the folder unless they have explicit permission.

    • 4). Type the user name to which you want to give access to the information. Check the box labeled "Allow" to allow access. Click "OK." Repeat this step until you add each user to the folder's permissions.
