Cannot Read Compact Disc File System (CDFS) Files
- The first action you should take if your computer cannot read the CD file system is to clean the disk. Use a damp, soft cloth and make sure there are no spots or dust on the media. You may see strange error messages if your CD/DVD drive is attempting to read a dirty disk.
- If you are using a Linux-based system, such as Ubuntu, you may need to run a command at the command prompt to mount the CD/DVD drive. In systems running Puppy, the desktop interface includes a program accessible from the “Start” button that will mount connected drives. Make sure the CD drive is mounted in order to access the files in the CDFS.
- It is possible that the CD/DVD drive is simply not operating correctly on the computer. Try accessing files in the CDFS by inserting the CD into another drive on another computer. You may be able to read the CD using another drive; if you can, the problem is with your computer, not the CD.
- If you cannot read the CDFS from any drive or computer, you most likely need to recreate your CD. Try using a different CD burning program when creating the disk, or try a different brand of CD media.
