An Internet browser is more powerful than many people realize. Sure, it is easy to type an address and visit a website, but there other useful things that a browser can do to increase productivity, work speed and accuracy. You may have to download an extension for your browser to make the steps work in some cases, but once you do that, your computer will automatically perform the functions desired. - YouTube and similar sites are growing larger everyday, and people flock to them for quick access to content. If you want to quickly download a video from one of these sites, type deturl.com/ before address in the URL. You will be able to save the video as a Flash or Quicktime file. This is especially useful for mobile devices that do not support Flash but do support Quicktime.
- Sites such as Twitter allow you to post only a certain amount of characters in your posts, making it difficult to post a tweet if you have a long URL. You can minimize the length of your URL by typing bit.ly before the URL. That will generate you a URL that averages about 25 characters in length, leaving you enough room for a personal message in your post to accompany the URL.
- You may want to contact the owner of a website that you visit, and you could be stuck if they do not list contact information. To find out who the owner of a site is, type whois.domaintools.com/ in the address bar before the address and there you will see all the information that the owner of the site has registered in order to own that particular domain.
- If you sign up for a free username at http://futz.me/site/, you can make your browser send you links, pictures and other files easily. After you get a username, type futzme.com/xyz, followed by a space (xyz is your unique username) and anything that’s after the space will be sent to your email address. This can convenient for research.
