How to Pinpoint a Leaky Pipe
- 1). Inspect all visible water pipes in your house. Look for cracks or small holes in the piping. If you find any physical damage, either replace the pipe or use a sealant to plug the leak.
- 2). Examine the area around pipes for mold or water damage. If you suspect a pipe is leaking near a particular area, use a moisture meter to detect excess water. Press the top of the meter against wood and it will tell you how damp the area is.
- 3). Check pipe joints. If a leak is coming from a pipe joint, disassemble the pipe. Clean or replace the leaking section and reassemble.
- 4). Inspect toilets because they commonly leak. Check the seals and plumbing for cracks.
