Voxwire at a Glance
Bottom-Line: Voxwire is a simple web conferencing tool offering all basic functionality such as chat and screen sharing.
Pros: It’s fast to load, and voice transmission works flawlessly.
Cons: It’s not very intuitive, so it takes a few meetings to get completely used to the location for some of the main commands. Also, when the meeting host exits the meeting, it still continues for other participants.
Price: A 10 user license costs $19.99 per month.
Getting started
Voxwire is a basic web conferencing tool that offers high-quality voice and video services for a low price. While it doesn’t look as good as competitors such as GoToMeeting, for example, it is reliable and cost-effective. To use the meeting room, the Adobe Flash player must be installed. Since it is already present in most computers, so there are usually no downloads necessary to get started using Voxwire.
Once Voxwire is purchased, it’s easy to start a meeting, and all users have to do is log into their account. To do that, they must click on the ‘login’ button located at the top of the menu. After this is done, they can either click on the ‘quick start a session’ button to begin meeting immediately, or they can schedule a future meeting by choosing the ‘new meeting’ option.
This is a simple process, however, I found it to be the only really intuitive part of using Voxwire. To get to its other features, I had to spend some time playing around with the application in order to find what and where they were. While I don’t see this as a deal breaker, I do think that those who aren’t used to meeting online will be discouraged from using the tool again, as it can seem excessively complicated at first.
The user interface, while not intuitive, is generally clean and pleasant to use.
Features Available
Voxwire isn’t full of bells and whistles, it serves as a cost-effective, simple and reliable web conferencing application. Its more attractive features include:
When tested, all of the features worked reliably and fast, and I especially liked the ability to reorder my video screens, as it made for a more pleasant visual experience. The application is also great for rights management, making it easy for meeting hosts to decide the level of permission an attendee has in the web conference.
A Robust Webinar Tool
Another great thing about Voxwire is its scalability, as it can accommodate up to 1,000 meeting participants. This means that it's a good tool for webinars, as well as web and video conferencing.
Voxwire also archives the webinars for future viewing. This is useful when following-up with your attendees. After the meeting is over, hosts can then follow-up on the webinar and say that if there's the need to revisit any part of the discussion, it’s possible to do so by following a link that sends them to the archive of the session. This way, if anyone who couldn't attend the webinar can also go back and see what was discussed.
All in all, Voxwire is a simple, but reliable web conferencing tool that is great for those who don’t want to spend a fortune for conducting their online meetings. However, I would not recommend it to those who have never used a web conferencing tool before, as there are easier tools available.
