ITunes vs. Windows Media Player

• iTunes differs from Windows Media Player in several ways, the most basic of which is its program interface. ITunes is optimized to allow for easy transfer of songs between your computer and your iPod device, whereas Windows Media Player's primary function is as a desktop media player.

• Although iTunes is available for Windows, the program doesn't always function perfectly on Windows machines. You may find iTunes uses too much of your computer's memory and causes periodic freezing. If iTunes experiences problems only rarely, attempt to close and relaunch the program to resolve the issue before you transfer all your music.
  
  

How to Transfer Files

• To transfer files from iTunes to Windows Media Player, launch Media Player and minimize the program. Open your "iTunes Music" folder, maximize Windows Media Player and begin dragging and dropping files and folders from your iTunes music directly into your Windows Media Player library. From this point forward, the songs you transfer appear in your Windows Media Player library -- you don't need to find them on your computer to listen to them using the program.
  
  

Default Music Player

• To avoid having to transfer songs into Windows Media Player in the future, set the program as your default for listening to music files. Several means of doing this exist. Each time you launch Windows Media Player, for example, the program prompts you as to whether you'd like to set it as your default program. Click "Yes" -- or alternatively, open the "Default Programs" menu within Windows' "Control Panel" and set your preference there.
