How to Lip Sync in Blender

  • 1). Open Blender and load your graphic to use in the lip-sync animation. Before you can create a lip-sync animation, you have to set up Shape Keys that correspond to the necessary phonemes for the lip-sync audio. Adjust your Blender screen so your graphic is presented in the front 3D window, the action window, your time line window and the buttons window.

  • 2). Select the mouth portion of your graphic and position the mouth for a specific phoneme. Select "Shapes" from the "Editing" panel and add a Shape Key. Name the key after the phoneme for that mouth position. Save the Shape Key and repeat this process for every phoneme your lip sync audio requires.

  • 3). Load the audio file you wish to link to the graphic for a lip-sync animation. The audio file will load in Blender's Video Sequencer Window. Reposition the Video Sequencer window if desired.

  • 4). Click on "Sound Block Buttons" in the Scene window. Click on "Sync" and "Scrub" from the Audio Sequencer settings.

  • 5). Select your graphic and notice the Shape Keys you made in the Action window. Click on the downward-pointing arrow next to the word "sliders" in the Action window and use your mouse to adjust the sliders for each Shape Key to adjust the graphic's movement to the audio file for proper lip sync coordination.
