1

Boot your computer and insert the Visual Studio 2008 CD. The setup utility should launch automatically. If it doesn't, boot the CD by going to "My Computer" and clicking twice on the icon for your CD-ROM drive.
2

Click on "Install Video Studio 2008" in the setup menu. When the new window appears, check the "Yes" box if you want information about your setup experience sent to Microsoft. This is not necessary and it is perfectly fine to leave it unchecked. Click "Next" to proceed.
3

Read and agree to the licensing agreement. Scroll down or click on the down arrow so that you see the entire thing. Then type in your product key, which is a series of numbers and letters, in the designated box below the agreement. The key should be printed on a sheet of paper inside the case your software CD came in. If you can't find it, call Microsoft customer service (see Resources). Click "Next" once you're done typing in the key.
4

Choose the type of install you would like to do. Most people go with the default settings, but you can pick a full or custom install if you like. On the right side of the window you will see "Product install path." Either keep the default destination of your program files folder or browse to pick a new location to download your software to. Click "Install."
5

Wait for the install to complete. It may take awhile. Once it's finished, set up Visual Studio by following the setup wizard. You can find the program in the folder you saved it to in Step 4. Double-click on it to get started.
