How to Make Bathtubs New Again
- 1). Add 3/4 cup of grease-fighting dishwasher detergent to a bucket with a gallon of water. Use a sponge or abrasive pad and clean the tub using the solution to remove dirt. Make sure to clean the faucet, faucet knobs and shower head. Allow the solution to sit for 15 minutes before rinsing with warm to hot water.
- 2). Mix three parts baking soda with one part water to create a baking soda paste. Apply the paste using an abrasive pad and scrub the paste throughout the bathtub to remove odors and mildew. Allow it to sit for 15 minutes and rinse with hot water.
- 3). Mix 2 tbsp. salt with 1 tbsp. of white vinegar to create a paste. Apply the paste to the chrome or steel fixtures and use an abrasive pad to shine them. Allow to sit for 15 minutes and rinse with hot water.
- 4). Mix three parts borax with one part lemon juice to create a paste. Apply the paste to rust and iron spots, which are usually reddish-brown, with an abrasive pad. Allow it to dry before rinsing with hot water.
- 5). Contact a surface restoring company to have the bathtub refinished if it has severe chips throughout. Restoration of the bathtub will be cheaper than replacing it.
