    Exclusion Period

    • Tennessee has an exclusion period of up to 2 years for pre-existing conditions. This means that if you were diagnosed with an illness prior to being accepted for health insurance, you could have to wait for up to 2 years before being treated for your pre-existing condition. If you've had continuous coverage, however, you can avoid the exclusion for pre-existing conditions.

    Guaranteed Renewability

    • Health insurance companies in Tennessee have guaranteed renewability mandated for all health insurance policies. This means that if you pay your premiums on time, you are guaranteed to be able to renew your health insurance coverage.

    Newborns

    • Tennessee law mandates that insurance companies add newborns and adopted children under a parent's health insurance plan for 31 days if the parent's policy covers dependent children.
