Breast Augmentation

103 1
Also known as Augmentation Mammoplasty, the procedure involves placement of implants beneath the breast tissue to increase fullness and projection of your breasts, improve the balance of your figure, and enhance your self-image and self confidence.
It also restores breast volume after weight reduction and pregnancy.
However, breast augmentation does not correct severely drooping breasts.
If you want your breasts to look fuller and to be lifted due to sagging, a breast lift or mastopexy may be required in conjunction with breast augmentation.
Two types of implants are commonly used, silicone and saline.
Contrary to popular belief, silicone implants are FDA approved and has NOT been shown to cause connective tissue disease and cancer.
Saline and silicone implants have their own advantages and disadvantages.
The procedure is generally performed as an outpatient procedure under general anesthesia and takes about 1 to 2 hours to complete.
Common incision locations include the inframammary fold (breast crease), in the underarm (transaxillary), or around the areola (periareolar).
Placement of implants beneath the chest wall muscle or directly behind breast tissue using pre-filled silicone implants or implants filled with saline during surgery creates the desired volume.
Moderate pain and swelling are to be expected after surgery.
The swelling should subside in 2-4 weeks.
Elastic bandages are applied after the procedure to keep the implants in place and help reduce swelling.
The incision lines will continue to flatten and fade for up to 1 year.
