The southern Indian state of Karnataka, formerly called Mysore, has a long coastline of 320 km which is dotted with several beach towns with stunning palm-shaded sea beaches.
The best thing about the many beaches of the Coastal Karnataka is that they are mostly still unspoiled unlike the many beaches of Goa, Chennai and Konkan regions which, of late, have become crowded and spoiled.
Among the several beach towns of the Coastal Karnataka, Karwar, Marawanthe, Malpe, Murudeshwar, and Mangalore enjoy much popularity and significance, courtesy their scenic beauty and clear sea waters besides palm-shaded beaches with silvery sands.
Karwar: Perhaps, the most famous beach town of the Coastal Karnataka, Karwar is an ideal holiday retreat and is popular for its calm alleys and the palm-shaded beach that take a golden hue during the sunsets and sunrises.
The scenic beauty of Karwar so inspired the Poet Laureate Rabindra Nath Tagore that he wrote his first play here.
Karwar--apart from its stunning beach--is also much recognized for its 300-year old Venkataramana Temple that much attracts the people inspired by spiritualism.
Karwar is located 100 km away from Goa.
Marawanthe: This beach town is located 110 km away from Mangalore and has a great beach.
Situated between the Arabian Sea and the Souparnika River, Marawanthe has the towering Kodachadri Hills in its backdrop that enhances the beauty of the place a great deal, so much that it is often called a "Fairyland of Scenic Beauty".
Malpe: This picture-postcard beauty is located 392 km away from Bangalore and is much renowned for its silver and palm-shaded beaches, and the breathtaking views of the sea that it offers to the visitors.
Murudeshwar: This is a scenic holy place and much famed for its towering hills, beautiful beach, roaring sea, and, of course, the Murudeshwar Temple of Lord Shiva which is in the form of a Linga.
Murudeshwar is also well-known for its lip-smacking cuisine that includes several delicacies of the Coastal Karnataka such as spicy fish curries and delicious coconut sweets.
Mangalore: Mangalore is a major port and a beautiful city of Coastal Karnataka.
Despite being a big city with all the modern facilities, Mangalore has retained much of its old world charm.
The Kadri Hill, Manjunath Temple, and Jumma Masjid are some of the famous attractions of Mangalore that also has an idyllic beach located in sylvan surroundings.
