How to Survive Your 40th Birthday
- 1). Gather 40 friends and family together and go out on the town for a night of dining and dancing. Put on your favorite party shoes and have the time of your life. Forget about wanting to slide the milestone under the rug; get out and celebrate with those who will bring fun and joy to your special day.
- 2). Spend your 40th birthday in a place you have always wanted to visit. Whether it is a cabin on top of a secluded mountain, a beach house located near a favorite golf course or even a trip to Paris, make it a trip of a lifetime. Take a friend or family member who will enjoy the experience just as much as you will. Consider your 40th birthday as an adventure.
- 3). Write down what you have accomplished in 40 years. This may include acquiring a college degree, getting married, having kids or even starting your own business. Write down anything that seems important. Each time a moment of anxiety washes over you because of the 40th birthday, take the piece of paper out and read aloud what you have attained in your 40 years.
- 4). Volunteer your time. Surviving your 40th birthday is about feeling good about yourself. Helping others that are less fortunate may help turning 40 less frightening, especially when you begin to realize how lucky you are to have what you do. Visit the local shelter or soup kitchen and serve lunch to the homeless. Stop by a nursing home with freshly baked goods and ask to visit the elderly in the dining area.
- 5). Throw a birthday celebration. Request friends and family to bring an old photograph of you, or maybe even write down a favorite memory or two. Hang up a large piece of poster board in the center of the room. Ask everyone invited to tape the photograph or memory onto the poster board. Once completed, take a moment to look at the collage and read each comment and not only smile, but feel good about turning 40.
