How to Remove Tar From a Plastic Bath Tub
- 1). Open the windows or remove the plastic bathtub to a well ventilated area before using acetone.
- 2). Pour some acetone onto the clean cloth and hold the wet rag over the tar infected area. Acetone will not damage a plastic surface, but will begin to dissolve the petrochemical. Hold the cloth over the tar area for a few seconds and allow the acetone to work into the spot. Do not wipe the area yet, as you may spread the tar over a larger surface.
- 3). Remove the cloth and pour some more acetone onto a clean portion of the cloth and reapply over the area. In small rotating circles, begin to clean the tar from the plastic surface. Remove the cloth and check the progress of the tar removal.
- 4). Use a clean cloth and discard the old cloth outdoors for the moment. Apply some more acetone to the tar spot and begin to wipe, again in small circles over the area.
- 5). Apply one final dab of acetone to the cloth and wipe the area clean. The tar should be removed with no damage to the plastic.
