How to Apply Special Effects to Text in Microsoft Word 2003
- 1). In your Word document, select the words you want animated. Go to the "Format" menu and select "Font." The "Font' dialog box will open. Go to the "Text Effects" tab. Choose from the listed effects. Click "OK" and you'll see the animation on your document.
- 2). Add a drop cap to your document. The drop-cap effect will enlarge the first letter of your document, making it ideal for a report or story. To apply a drop cap, select the text and go to the "Format" menu. Click on "Drop Cap"; the "Drop Cap" dialog box will open. Choose from "Dropped" or "In Margin." "Dropped" will enlarge the letter within your document, moving the subsequent text to the right. "In Margin" will place the enlarged letter in the margin to the left. In the "Lines to Drop Text" box, choose the number of lines you want this large letter to take up. In the "Distance From Text" box, choose how far you want the letter to be from the succeeding text. Click "OK."
- 3). Insert WordArt. WordArt is text you insert much as you would a picture or clip art. To insert WordArt, go to the "Insert" menu and point to "Picture." Click on "WordArt" and choose the style you want to use. Click "OK." Type your text into the box. Change the font if you wish and click "OK."
- 4). Customize your Word Art by clicking on it to select it. Right-click and choose "Format WordArt." The "Format WordArt" dialog box will open. Choose different colors, shapes, orientations and more. When the text looks just the way you want it, click "OK."
- 5). Insert a text box by going to the "Insert" menu and choosing "Text Box." Drag the text box where you want it. You can apply a different font to the text in the box, making it stand out from the rest of your document. Format the text box itself by clicking on the border to select it; right-click and choose "Format Text Box." From the "Format Text Box" dialog, you can add colors, borders and more.
