    About the Injection

    • Hydroxocobalamin, a man-made form of B12, is injected directly into a muscle as directed by a physician and can be administered at home once the patient learns the proper technique.

    Risks of B12 Deficiency

    • Even a minor B12 deficiency can cause shaky movements and unsteadiness, muscle weakness, incontinence, low blood pressure, mood disorders, psychosis and dementia, according to Medline Plus.

    Common Problems

    • The most common side effects of the injection are mild diarrhea,itching, increased blood pressure and red urine. Rashes and swelling are possible, but might also be caused by the Nexium.

    Serious Side Effects

    • Serious reactions can include swelling or irritation of the eyes, difficulty swallowing, vomiting and severe allergic reaction. Nexium can also cause these side effects in rare cases.

    Cautions

    • This injection should be used with caution in those with low potassium levels, gout and certain eye conditions and high blood pressure. Tell your doctor about any medical conditions you have.
