Are you using treadmill workouts to help you reach your overall fitness goals? But does it seem like you're not making progress? Here are three reasons why your treadmill workouts aren't as effective as they should be, and what to do about it...
Treadmills are quite a bit more versatile than just flat ground walking or running.
Most people ultimately get bored using a treadmill, and that's a shame because it doesn't have to be that way.
There are two key elements to getting fit using a treadmill.
One is you, the other is your treadmill workout plan.
If one or the other is lacking, your results will lack as well.
So let's look at three reasons why you're not making as much progress as you'd like, and what to do about it...
Variety Is The Spice Of Life You have heard that old saying, right? Well, it applies to your workouts too.
If you do the same workout over and over, your body will adapt.
It not only applies to treadmill workouts, but every kind of workout.
If you do the same thing week after week, your body will not change, you won't make progress, and you will get bored, frustrated, or both.
The key is switching your workouts around every two weeks.
It is not as complex as it may seem.
For example, mix your speed or running workouts with an interval workout, using varying speeds where you walk part of the time, but run at higher speeds other times.
Your body will need to adjust and ultimately you will be more fit.
The Incline Feature The incline feature is there for a reason.
Not only can it challenge you to greater heights, no pun intended, but it serves as a variation to your normal program.
We recommend programs that mix in a few minutes running or walking at an appreciable incline, say four or five percent.
Several of your muscle groups will notice the difference, particularly your thighs, glutes, and calves.
Most people shy away from the incline because, well, it's hard.
But then again, so is getting a hard body.
A quick note...
if you do use the incline, don't hold on to the hand rails.
It is bad form and potentially dangerous to your knees, ankles, and other joints.
If you feel the need to hold on, slow down.
If you are holding on to monitor your heart rate, we suggest getting a heart rate monitor so you can keep your hands free.
Think about it.

They are becoming more and more popular and the instructor will take care of coming up with the workout.
All you have to do is show up and do it! Further, you will be there with like minded people who want to get fit just like you do.
A group setting always enhances the motivation level, and you may be able to compare notes with fellow attendees.
Summary If you're not getting the most from your treadmill workout program, ask yourself why.
You may need an extra boost of motivation, or a switch of your routine.
