How to Walk in a Wedding Gown & High Heels

    Preparation

    • 1). Try on and purchase heels that are somewhat comfortable for you to walk in. Walk around the store in the shoes and make sure that you can walk with relative ease and without pain. If you are not used to wearing heels, don't choose your wedding day to wear six-inch stilettos. If you find a shoe that you like but the heel is too high for you, find out whether you can have it cut down.

    • 2). Practice walking in your shoes at home. Begin by walking back and forth. Progress to doing more advanced moves such as turning, stepping over objects or dancing. This will help to break your shoes in and make them feel more comfortable on your foot. It will also help you to get used to walking in your wedding heels so that you will be more at ease wearing them on your wedding day.

    • 3). Walk outside in your shoes and scuff the sole lightly against the ground. This will make the sole of the shoe less slippery and help you to avoid slipping on a hard surface.

    • 4). Attend your gown fittings wearing your heels. Your seamstress can adjust the length of your gown in relation to your heels to help you avoid stepping on it.

    Wedding Day

    • 1). Take small steps while walking in your gown. This will help you to avoid placing too much weight on your heels or toes which may cause you to become unsteady. This will also help you avoid stepping on the front or back of your gown.

    • 2). If your gown is very long, lift it on the side with one hand. This is especially important when walking up or down stairs to keep you from tripping over any part of your gown.

    • 3). Try to avoid walking in grass, dirt, mud or sand when walking in heels in your gown, especially if your heels are very high or very thin. They could sink into the ground and cause you to get stuck or trip. If you are having an outdoor wedding and will be walking in dirt or sand, you may want to consider a flat pair of shoes or even going barefoot.
