How to Address My Correspondence to the Governor
- 1). Compose your correspondence by beginning your letter with, "Sir," "Madam" or "Dear Gov. (Last Name)." Sign your letter with, "Sincerely Yours" or "Very Truly Yours." This is the correct way to address correspondence to a governor.
- 2). Place your return address on the front of your envelope. In case your letter becomes undeliverable for some reason, your return address provides the post office with a location to return the envelope. Your return address is placed in the upper left corner of the front of your envelope in this format:
Your First and Last Name
Your house number and street address
Your City, Your State and Your Zip Code - 3). Place the governor's address in the center of the front of your envelope in the following format:
The Honorable Governor of (Your State)
Street Address
City, State, Zip Code - 4). Affix the correct amount of postage to your envelope and mail it at any post office or by placing it in your personal mailbox and raising the flag.
