How to Connect an HP LaserJet to an XP Computer
- 1). Remove any packaging materials attached to the printer and the toner cartridge. Install the toner cartridge by opening the top cover of the printer, sliding the cartridge into the toner cartridge compartment and then closing the printer cover.
- 2). Connect the data cable from the parallel/USB port of the computer to its respective port in the LaserJet printer. Plug one end of the power cable that comes with the printer into its power port and the other end into a working power outlet.
- 3). Press the "Power" button to turn on the printer.
- 4). Place the LaserJet printer installation CD into the optical drive of the computer. Wait for the installer to launch automatically. If it does not launch, click "Start," "My Computer" and then your "CD/DVD drive."
- 5). Follow the instructions that will appear on your screen and wait for the process to finish. Reboot the computer. Try printing a document to check if the printer installation was successful.
