The ever impressive manafacturer HTC have pulled out all the stops again with their newest handset, the Wildfire. This Android 2.1 Smartphone looks to pack in the features of its predecessors but at an all together more affordable price.

Perhaps the one aspect that continually surprises us with HTC is the incredibly user friendly features that they add to their phones. On the Wildfire for example there is a new polite ringer facility. What this does is lower the ringer volume when you lift the phone up to look at the screen, thanks to the accelerometer chip, and should you chose not to answer the call then place it face down and the ringer will silence. Web browsing on the handset is made easier by the full Flash support and also the pinch and zoom facility. These handy features alongside one touch dictionary, wikipedia search and translation really do make using the phone a pleasure. Being an Android handset means much of the operation of the phone is based around widgets, a much easier system than scrolling through various menus. This in conjunction with the "Sense" interface make things really simple. All homescreens can easily be viewed at once using Leap View, social networking updates are all grouped together using Friendstream. It seems every idea that would make using the phone easier has been included on the Wildfire.

Moving away from the operation of the phone and looking at design, the HTC Wildfire does not disappoint here either. Thanks to a stylish design which includes a metal band across the back of the phone and very sexy curved edges, the phone looks great. The weight of 115g is not excessive and the measurements of 106.7 x 60.4 x 12.9 mm are compact enough. Within its frame HTC have managed to fit a TFT display with a measurement of 3.2". Capable of displaying 16 million colours and showing a 240 x 320 resolution means images look crisp and clear. The screen itself is capacitive, making navigating around the seven homescreens easy, and an optical trackpad is also fitted for a more traditional way of moving around websites. The 1300mAh battery supplied is impressive to, and although not quite up to the standards of the Blackberry still offers a huge 8 hours of talktime and 480 hours in standby.

The HTC Wildfire is released this summer. A huge array of functional and user friendly features will keep smartphone fans happy, but on the flipside the predicted low price will make it a viable option for anybody looking for an upgrade from a more lower end phone. The Wildfire looks set to be a real winner for HTC.
