Over the past 15+ years since mixed martial arts first made its introduction in the early 1990's it has grown and improved slowly at first. But as the recent years have went by it has truly developed as not just a sport but as a franchise for merchandisers as well.

There are a lot of companies out there with the promise that they provide the best mixed martial arts (MMA) gear and fight wear but you need to be educated in what is actually good before you buy. After all you are going to be fighting in it; you don't want it to be uncomfortable, or dangerous to yours or your opponent's health.

Here are a few things to look out for when purchasing MMA fighting clothes.
Every person involved in MMA fighting will need a good pair of fight shorts, the way you would determine whether or not the shorts are good is via a number of things.

1) The fabric needs to be lightweight and easy to move around it, you do not want heavy shorts that are hard to manoeuvre round in, especially as you could be caught in some slightly unnatural positions.
2) The fabric needs to however be strong and durable, just because it is light doesn't mean it should be flimsy and easy tearable.
3) Comfort is the key, get shorts preferably with a draw string so you can adjust the size of the waist, you want the shorts to fit when you go through your weight gain and loss without having to go out and buy more.

You will also need to buy a good pair of grappling gloves; things to look for in a good pair of gloves are;

1) First of all make sure you have the right size for your hand, measure your hand and any good supplier will have the measurements option when it comes to buy.
2) The knuckle area should be raised; this makes it easier to manoeuvre your hands and fingers without breaking any bones.
3) Make sure they also have split fingers; this is so you have freedom of movement so you don't damage your fingers when grappling. It also means each finger is protected by the material in between.
4) Also there must be a wrap around the wrist; your wrists can be quite weak even if you are an extremely fit fighter. You need as much support as possible so as to not cause any long lasting injuries.

A fighter will also need a good rash guard, when buying rash guards you need to look for;

1)Breathable material. Rash guards are very tight, you need to make sure they are breathable so you can let air in and you avoid sweat getting trapped.
2)The material is comfortable to wear, if not it could be a distraction when fighting.
3)If you can, try and get rubberised stitching, there will be Velcro on your fight shorts and if you have rubberised stitching it will prevent the stitching fraying when rubbing against the Velcro. It also means it will be stronger and longer lasting.

There are more things to look out for when buying MMA clothes but these are some of the main things. It just means that the clothing you do buy will be of a higher quality and could last you so much longer than other brands out there.
