How to Create a PNG for a Mac Folder Background

    • 1). Click "Preview" on the Dock of your Mac to launch Apple's native image viewing and editing application.

    • 2). Click "File" from the Preview menu, then click "Open." A box appears. Click the folder on your Mac containing the image file you want to convert into a PNG image. Click the file to select it, then click "Open."

    • 3). Click "File," then click "Save As." A box appears. Click the "Format" pull-down menu, then click "PNG." Type a name for the PNG in the "Save As" box, then click a folder where you want to save the PNG on your Mac. Click "Save."

    • 4). Double-click the folder for which you want to use the PNG for a background image to open it.

    • 5). Click "View" from the Finder menu, then click "As Icons."

    • 6). Click "View" once more, then click "Show View Options." The folder's View Options window appears.

    • 7). Click the "Picture" option in the "Background" section of the window.

    • 8). Drag the PNG you created with Preview from its folder into the box labled "Drag Image Here" in the view options window. The PNG appears in the background of your folder.

    • 9). Click the red circle in the top left corner of the window to close it.
