Usually people are discouraged when they come to know that Acupuncture practices are based on needles.
But no need to be afraid, these needles are very thin and fine and just gives a slight sensation of prick.
The expert and skillful medical practitioners would surely not let you feel any pain during the process.
This process is based on the theory that there are 12 meridians through which energy or 'qi' is flowing.
These meridians are classified in Yin and Yang groups.
The Yin meridians of the arm are connected to heart, lung and pericardium.
On the other hand, the Yang meridian consists of a pathway that leads to small intestine, large intestine and Triple Warmer.
In Chinese medicine, Triple Warmer refers to the three regions of the abdomen; upper, middle and lower.
The Yin meridian of the leg destines towards kidney, spleen and liver while the Yang meridian is connected to stomach, urinary bladder and gallbladder.
History Behind acupuncture Acupuncture is a very ancient form of healing in Chinese medicine.
The philosophy dates beck to 8000 years when Taoist tradition existed.
The people of that time studied a lot about the inner and external energies.
They also focused a great deal on the connection of man to nature and universe.
There were many legendaries belonging to this period, the most popular being Fu Hsi Keen observations of nature made Fu Hsi formulate the concept of two important symbols, broken and unbroken lines.
These symbols revealed two major forces; creation and reception and how they interacted.
This formulation was named as Yin-Yang, which formed the framework and bases of all Chinese medical practices.
Then Fu Hsi discovered that how the fusion of Yin-Yang led to a tremendous action, which gave rise to a third aspect.
These three aspects led to 8 trigrams and 64 hexagrams which become the basis of creation of the book I-Ching.
This book structured the thinking for years to come and became a reflection for all subsequent books on Chinese medicine.
Society of China is divided into 2 time periods, The Old Stone Age which dates back to more than 10,000 years and The New Stone Age which existed between 4000 to 10,000 years back.
Old Stone Age comprises of knives made from stones which were used for medical procedures.
In the New Stone Age, these stones were modifies to fine needles which were applied for several disease treatments.
These modified stone needles were named as Bian stone, which means use of sharp edged stone to treat diseases.
Though the acupuncture practice dates back since an ancient era, it is not yet recognized universally.
To date, the evidence is inadequate to find logical connections between human nervous system and the theories on the energy pathways which are objects of acupuncture.
