How to Make Crafts With Crystal Prisms
- 1). Lay out the crystal prisms and decide on a design for the sun catcher. The prisms do not all need to be hanging down. If some of the prisms are oblong or long and thin, try placing them tightly between other prisms to make them stick out sideways. Experiment with different colors and shapes to find a pretty combination. The sun catcher can be as long or short as desired, but the bottom should end with a single hanging prism.
- 2). Measure and cut a long piece of wire to string the sun catcher. The wire should be about 2 1/2 times longer than the length of the sun catcher. Hold the length of wire along the layout of the prisms before cutting to get an approximate measurement.
- 3). Match up the two cut ends of the wire and crease the center point. String the bottom hanging prism onto one side of the wire, transferring it to the creased center.
- 4). Add the prisms in order of the layout. String some prisms over both strands of the wire and others over only one strand. Prisms that are meant to stick out sideways might work best if only strung onto one strand. Place another identical prism on the other strand to make the sun catcher symmetrical.
- 5). Clamp the end of the wires when all of the prisms are added and you are satisfied with the placement. Follow the manufacturer’s directions for the wire clamp to determine how to best clamp off the sun catcher.
- 6). Cut any extra wire ends at the clamp and attach the sun catcher to a hook or keychain to hang in the sun.
- 1). Thread the desired amount of crystal prisms onto head pins. The charm should consist of between one and three prisms, with a head pin for each prism. Push each prism to the bottom of its head pin.
- 2). Bend the head pin to the side directly above the prism. Grasp the head pin with a pair of round-nose pliers, positioning them as close to the top of the prism as possible. Use your fingers to pull the wire around the top of the pliers, creating an enclosed loop. Repeat this process for every head pin.
- 3). Cut the excess wire from the head pin, leaving a tiny opening at the end of the loop. This opening will allow the head pin to attach to a chain and be squeezed close. Repeat this process for every head pin, creating a loop at the top of each head pin and securing the prism in place at the bottom.
- 4). Pull open the loop at the top of each headpin with a pair of needle-nose pliers. Only open the loops enough to attach to a chain or clasp and be careful not to distort the shape.
- 5). Attach the loops to a bracelet or necklace chain or a jewelry clasp. A jewelry clasp will allow you to remove the charm as desired and use on several pieces of jewelry. Carefully close the loops with the needle-nose pliers, attaching them to the chain or clasp, finishing the charm.
