Play is an important part of your child's life. It relaxes and calms her, and also stimulates her brain and helps her learn. According to the Help Guide, an online consumer-assistance organization, play encourages love of learning, piques the imagination, and fosters adaptability and creativity. Games make learning fun and help children develop an interest in solving problems and discovering new things.

    Bug Math

    • This free, online game is designed for students in kindergarten through second grade. The game is designed on leaves of a large plant. The child's task involves counting the bugs on the first leaf, counting those on the second leaf, then adding them together to get a total. To do this, she enters the correct number of bugs in the appropriate squares at the top of the screen. After she has typed in the number of bugs on the first and second leaves, the bugs will all move to a third leaf where the player can count them all to get a total. Only correct answers can be typed into the game. If her number disappears, she has made a mistake and can try again.

    Math Man

    • In the online game Math Man, players use the arrow keys to control a little Math Man character. Gobble up a question to discover which of the answers to chomp first. When a math problem displays, choose which of the "ghost" answers will solve the equation. A player who chooses correctly can keep playing but a wrong answer sends him back to the beginning of the level. This free, well-designed game looks very much like the old "Pac Man" game, and is just as much fun to play.

    Math Lines

    • Math Lines is an online game that challenges players to destroy balls by making groups that add up to five. If there is a grouping of the same number (such as several ones in a row), the whole group can be blasted by hitting it with a four. Don't let the front ball reach the end of the track or the game is over. Balls that miss the target number become part of a line snaking through the game. For the highest score, get rid of all the balls before they begin to drop off the board. Clear the board and you move to the next level, which is played the same, but the ball track is more complicated. Kids enjoy this fun, free game, and are practicing their addition facts without even realizing it.
