Comic Book Theme

• A comic book-themed yearbook is comprised of images of students throughout the year, strung together to complete a story. Within each image, text bubbles with funny one-liners are added to give students a chuckle. Images may be candid pictures of students in science lab, on the playground, in the cafeteria and hanging out at recess. The committee that puts together a comic book-themed yearbook must do so in a way such that little story snippets make sense, or can be combined to create one long story. Students will enjoy looking at the pictures and laughing at the funny text inserts. Another idea is to use comic book characters for inspiration in regards to the design of the yearbook. For instance, a Spiderman inspired yearbook may have spiderwebs in the corners of the pages.
  
  

Summer Theme

• Since yearbooks are distributed at the end of the school year, a seasonal-appropriate theme is something summer-related, such as the beach. There can be a section in the yearbook where students submit quotes about their summer plans that they are looking forward to the most, and even a page or two on summer tips for safety when it comes to skin exposure, heatstroke and drowning. To complete the summer theme, pages in the yearbook should be decorated with graphics like sunglasses, suns, palm trees, beach balls and surfboards.
  
  

Teamwork

• A yearbook theme about teamwork is a great way to inspire young individuals about the value and benefits of teamwork. This is a theme that you can incorporate into your school year, too, and then make the yearbook to complement it at the end of the term. A teamwork theme has pictures of students working together in groups, helping one another out in class and playing together respectfully. Other images include pictures of the individuals in the school band, art classes and sport teams or gym class. Inspirational quotes about teamwork should be worked into the yearbook, and perhaps include a section in the yearbook where students submit their definition of what it means to be a team.
  
  

Green Themes

• Many elementary schools teach students about ways to be green and take care of the environment, which makes an effective yearbook theme. Start out by creating the yearbook out of recycled or partially recycled paper. This demonstrates a commitment to being green. Then, include pictures and images of students doing things around the school campus to help the environment, such as recycling, collecting bottles, planting flowers and hosting eco-fundraisers. You can also include an award section in the yearbook for students who display an outstanding commitment to helping the school be green.
