What Devices Work With Avocent DSView?
- Avocent is a provider of secure, open and modular solutions for managing information technology equipment and services. From a single screen, the DSView 3 Data Center Management Software offers secure, remote and centralized access to IT assets --- including servers, network equipment and embedded technologies. It also features support for multiple appliances and devices.
- A blade server is a particular type of server chassis that houses multiple, thin electronic circuit boards, or blades. Each blade functions as a server designed for modular applications to minimize space and energy needs. The DSView 3 software supports several types of blade chassis, such as those produced by IBM (the BladeCenter and PowerEdge 1855) and Hewlett Packard (BladeSystem c-Class). This software can also support several modems and serial PCI cards, such as the Perle PCI-RAS 4, the Equinox SST 4p Serial and the external modem, the USR3453B - Courier 56k.
- KVM --- short for keyboard, video (or visual display) and mouse --- is hardware that permits users to control multiple computers from a single computer, video display and mouse. A "KVM over IP" are dedicated video-capture devices that compress and send the signals from the KVM to a remote console for display.
Avocent KVM over IP appliances that work with the DSView 3 software include a number of switches: DS1800 digital switches, MergePoint Unity switches, and a variety of DSR switch models -- containing a modem port used with remote operations software --- such as 1020, 1022, 1031 and 2030.
This software also supports select third-party KVM over IP appliances, such as those offered by Dell (2161DS2), IBM (GCM switches 1754D1X and 1754D2X) and Fujitsu Components Limited (FW-D2016NP). - Console servers allow network operations center and IT professionals to conduct secure and remote centralized data center management. The DSView 3 software supports several console management devices, such as the ACS 5000 and ACS 6000.
The Power Devices, or PM power distribution units (PDUs), that work with this software include the Avocent PM PDUs (PM 8, PM 10 and PM 20) and the APC AP71xx, AP78xx and AP79xx series third-party PDUs (supported through Ethernet only).
