How to Fix Search Window Details in Windows XP
- 1). Click on "Start > Search" to open the Windows XP Search tool. A Windows Explorer window will open up with your search options in the left pane.
- 2). Type all or part of the file name in the first search field, then click on the drop-down menu for "Look In" to set the directory to search in. (To search the whole hard drive, select "Local Hard Drives (C:)".)
- 3). Select the file modification date. Choices will be "Don't remember," "Within the last week," "Past month," "Within the past year" and "Specify dates." (Choose the "Specify dates" option to set a custom date range.)
- 4). Select the file size. Choices will be "Don't remember," "Small," "Medium," Large," and "Specify size." (Choose the "Specify size" option to set a custom size.)
- 5). Select the advanced options. Choices will be "Type of file" (select by opening the drop-down menu and clicking on a file type), "Search system folders" (Y/N), "Search hidden files and folders" (Y/N), "Search subfolders" (Y/N), "Case sensitive" (Y/N), and "Search tape backup" (Y/N).
- 6). Click on the "Search" button to conduct your search. Your results will be displayed to the left of the search pane.
