US citizens can no longer over indulge in the amount of water they use.
This is not Rome and this is not 100 BC.
Water is becoming more and more a precious commodity in the United States.
Each year, our reservoirs run way too low, and we risk running out if the next season of rainfall is not sufficient.
This year, things have been okay in the United States, with a good amount of rainfall; this after coming off of a decade of droughts in many regions of the country.
Under "Level II Drought" conditions citizens must comply with water restrictions which often include outdoor watering, washing of the car, and mandatory reductions or fines.
Many water companies will increase the water bill threefold if their customers go over the allotted amount of water for their household during such drought levels.
But whether or not your city, county, region, or state is in a drought situation in any given year is irrelevant now, because everyone needs to save water every time they turn on the tap.
There are many ways to save water, and since over 50% of the water is generally used outside the home, it makes sense to put in drip-irrigation around your shrubbery and bushes, to help your landscape without wasting water.
It also makes sense to do a little "xeriscaping" around the edges of your property, limiting the amount of grass that you put in, which needs constant watering.
Even limiting your showers to five minutes can save an abundant amount of water.
Everyone should do what they can.
It's time for all of us to learn how to save water, and it's best to go to your water company's website, and go ahead and look at all their recommendations for saving water.
You might also find that your city or county, or even your state government offers tax rebates for changing out your toilets to low float toilet bowls.
Every time you save water, you are helping everyone in the community.
And everyone must do their part.
I hope you will please consider all this.
