What Do I Need to Make My Own Ringtones?
- In order to create a ringtone, the desired songs needs to be on a computer hard drive. If the music is on a CD, it will need to be imported first. This can be done through iTunes.
- To make your own ringtone, a shorter version of a selected song needs to be created. iTunes is great for this purpose. Right-clicking on a particular song will open a menu; select "Get Info", type the desired start and stop times under the "Options" menu and press "OK". Then, under the "Edit," menu, click "Preferences," "Import Settings" and select "MP3". To create the shorter version, right-click on the song and select "Create MP3 Version." To create a ringtone by combining several parts of a song, free audio editing sotware such as Audacity, Acid Xpress or WavePad can be used. Importing a song can be done by clicking on "File," then "Import Audio," Edit the song with the easy-to-use editing tools and export it as MP3 by selecting "Export" from the "File" menu.
- Bluetooth or email can be used to transfer the ringtones to your cell phone. If the phone does not support Bluetooth or attachments, the transfer can be done by connecting the phone to the computer with a USB cable.
