How to Restore an MDF

    • 1). Click the Windows "Start" button and select "All Programs." Click "SQL Server" in your list of program groups and choose "SQL Server Management Studio." This opens the console utility.

    • 2). Right-click the "Databases" icon and select "Attach Database." A new dialog window opens. Click the "Add" button to select your MDF file.

    • 3). Select the MDF file you want to restore. Enter a name for the database in the text box labeled "Attach As."

    • 4). Click "OK" to attach the MDF file. It may take several minutes for the process to complete, depending on the size of the MDF file.

    • 5). Click "OK" at the confirmation screen. The attached database is displayed on the left of your Management Studio window. Click the plus sign next to the restored database to see the restored list of tables and stored procedures.
