How to Restore a DHCP Server on Windows XP
- 1). Click the Windows "Start" button and select "Control Panel." Double-click the icon labeled "Network Connections." Right-click the "Local Area Connection" icon and select "Properties."
- 2). Click the "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" icon in the list box shown in the network adapter properties window. Click the "Properties" button after selecting TCP/IP. This opens another configuration window.
- 3). Select "Obtain an IP address automatically." This disables the static IP addresses entered if you have them configured. Select "Obtain DNS server address automatically" in the same window and press the "OK" button.
- 4). Press "OK" again and reboot the machine. The next time the Windows XP machine boots, it obtains an IP address from the DHCP server on the network.
