How to Estimate Pages Per Cartridge
- 1). Open the ink cartridge meter on your computer or printer. If your printer supports it, there is a native ink cartridge meter in the Windows Control Panel under "Devices and Printers." Likewise, the software that you needed to install to use your printer on your computer may have come with an ink level monitor. You may also find the monitor in the control panel of the printer itself. Use whichever represents your specific circumstances.
- 2). Use your printer under normal circumstances until your ink level reaches 90 percent. Keep track of how many pages your printer was able to produce during this period. This may take several days or even weeks if you don't use the printer often. Periodically check to see your ink level and keep a tally of the exact number of pages your printer produced during this period.
- 3). Multiply the number of pages your printer was able to produce by 10. If your printer was able to print 30 pages, for example, it did so using only 10 percent of your printer's ink. This means that for every 10 percent of the total ink you get approximately 30 pages. Ten percent multiplied by 10 equals 100 percent, which means that 30 pages multiplied by 10 equals 300 pages. On a full ink cartridge, your printer can produce an estimated 300 pages worth of documents.
