    Water Level Light

    • Routinely observe the water level light. According to the WoodMaster Owner's Manual, if it is off, that means the water level is low, and that you need to refill it. Apply the water until it overflows the vent pipe. Inspect the water level in the pipe to ensure proper functioning of this light. Don't forget to do this, because, according to the manual, if you leave the furnace without water, that can expose your unit's water jacket to oxygen, which, in turn, will damage your furnace.

    Ash Removal

    • Remove any ash from your stove every week. If your furnace came without an auger, take a shovel to the ashes in the front of the stove, and a rake to those in the back. Put all ashes in a noncombustible container with a tight lid. Get rid of them as soon as possible after they've cooled.

    Treatment of Boiler

    • Add the boiler treatment that came with the unit at the time of purchase annually. When doing this, allow the system to burn for two hours. Add the treatment only after the water temperature has hit 100 degrees. Insert it in the vent pipe just behind the chimney.

    Dealing With Creosote

    • When wood burns slowly, it gives off tar and other vapors, which combine with moisture to form creosote. If you do not clean it, it could produce a hot, slow burning fire in your unit. Due to this risk, it's important that as a WoodMaster furnace owner you should inspect the chimney twice a month, especially during the winter months, checking for any buildup. If you see evidence of the substance, clean it out immediately.

    Winter Care

    • Place the cap over your chimney during the off season. Inspect all caulking to ensure the presence of a tight seal to protect against the entry of creosote. If you see cracks, recaulk the exposed area. Moisture and ashes are a deadly combination to your furnace, and WoodMaster warns that any damage your stove incurs due to such negligence voids the warranty.

    Spring Cleaning

    • Drain and flush your unit every spring. Open the drain valve and let the stove totally void. To flush, leave the valve open, and close the pump valve. Refill the stove; treat it right away. According to the manual, if the stove already has antifreeze, you don't need to treat it.
