What Are Salami Coronets?
- Often when people think of salami coronets, they assume that the recipes are geared toward an adult crowd. However, kids may not only enjoy eating salami coronets, but making them as well. A simple and fun-to-make salami coronet recipe is to mix 1 cup of cream cheese with 1/4 cup bread crumbs and 1 tsp chopped chives to use as a filling for the coronets. Just roll up the salami with an optional piece of provolone or cheddar cheese into a conical shape and then spoon in the cream cheese mixture.
- When prepared properly, salami coronets can be an elegant addition to any wedding or cocktail party. For a filling that's more upscale, mixing sun dried tomato paste or pesto with cream cheese is an excellent option. A little wasabi added to a ricotta cheese and cream cheese mixture is also a nice option. Using goat cheese as a filling is another interesting option for those desiring a more sophisticated taste.
- Salami coronets, paired with a salad can make a perfect light lunch. For example, a mascarpone, parmesan and garlic filling can be piped into the rolled salami to make a nice accompaniment to a Caesar salad. These little conical-shaped edibles also pair well with soup. One idea is to combine some cream cheese with a little bit of cheddar cheese in a food processor. After piping or spooning this filling into the salami cornets, serve them with some tomato basil or potato leak soup.
- Most people don't think of breakfast items when salami is mentioned, but there are a few creative recipes for breakfast coronets using salami. For a more hearty breakfast or brunch item, try filling rolled up salami with scrambled eggs. A filling of cooked potatoes, chives and egg whites scrambled together is a nice variation on this idea. Another idea is to mix cream cheese with sun dried tomatoes to use as a breakfast filling.
