Crafts Using Wine Bottles & Lights

    • Creating crafts or decorative lamps out of old wine bottles and lights is a wonderful, novel way to recycle a product that would ordinarily just be thrown away. Such projects are particularly good for wine bottles that are too pretty or unique to toss out. They also make great gifts.

    Wine Bottle and Christmas Lights

    • This project is a way to create something new out of a wine bottle, and you don't need to be particularly handy to do it. First, wash out your wine bottle and make sure it's completely dry on the inside. Then, wearing gloves and protective goggles, drill a hole about the size of a nickel through the bottom of the bottle. You need to be careful to make sure that the hole you drill lines up with the mouth of the bottle. Then, string Christmas lights through the bottle. Make sure you use lights that don't get too hot. Now the bottle is decorative and provides some low, festive lighting.

    Wine Bottle Lamps

    • This is a classic way to reuse an old wine bottle in your home every day; it's a craft for a particularly important bottle of wine, such as one that was used to celebrate a wedding or other major event. Purchase a light fixture that you can screw into the mouth of the bottle. Fill the wine bottle with some substance that will give it dead weight, such as sand or cat litter. Screw in the fixture with a Phillips head screwdriver according to the instructions on the package. Follow by screwing in a low watt bulb, such as a 60-watt bulb. Add a lampshade, if desired.

    Wine Bottle Tiki Torch

    • Making a wine bottle Tiki torch is great for the deck, balcony or backyard, or to provide a soft glow to your bedroom or dining room. You'd need a 12 inch wick and 1/2 inch copper coupling. Insert the wick into the coupling so that it sticks out about a 1/2 inch. Wrap Teflon tape around it, so that it's secure. Fill your wine bottle with torch oil. Push the wick into the bottle and with the copper coupling stopping at the very mouth of the bottle. You can mount it or just stand it upright on a flat surface.
