Celebrate to Raise Your Self-Esteem

As a self-esteem coach I always recommend my clients to celebrate! Celebration is an important and fun way to raise your self-esteem.
Why is celebrating good for my self-esteem? When you celebrate positive parts of yourself or your life you tell yourself that you are (1) good and (2) important.
When you do things that make you happy you show yourself that you are worthy of happiness.
Just like you would show your best friend that you care about her, are interested in her welfare and want her to be happy when you buy her an ice cream you show this to yourself when you buy an ice cream to yourself.
The more you celebrate the more important you show yourself that you are.
What should I celebrate? Last week I lost my motivation to work so I decided to take time off and have a celebration day.
I simply celebrated that I'm such a fantastic person with such a fantastic life and that there are so many fantastic people in my life.
You don't need a specific reason to celebrate, such as a promotion at work or a birthday.
You can celebrate whatever you want at whatever time you want.
Celebrate that you woke up this morning, celebrate that you managed to hand in the report on time, celebrate that you went running for an hour, celebrate that you have such good friends or family or celebrate that you dared to make a phone call that you were scared of.
Find as many reasons to celebrate as you can! You can have whole days (or even weeks) of celebration or you can celebrate for one minute.
Celebrate as much and as often as you can.
However, don't celebrate things that are not good for you.
I cannot see any reason to why it would be beneficial to celebrate that you're smoking or using other drugs, that you steal, that you overwork or that you do something that causes harm to others.
How should I celebrate? There are no rules for how a proper celebration should be like.
You can celebrate by talking a walk in the forest, by buying an ice cream, buy going to your favourite restaurant, by calling a friend, by taking a nap, by doing absolutely nothing, by playing computer games, buy surfing on the internet or by reading a book.
Do whatever makes you feel good.
Sometimes it can be difficult to come up with good ways of celebrating.
At those times it can be good to have a list prepared with thing that you like doing.
Make a list now so that you are prepared next time a celebration opportunity arises! Liv Miyagawa - The Self-Esteem Coach
