How to Treat a Fractured Nose
- 1). Sit down and lean forward to keep blood from going down your throat. Breathe through your mouth.
- 2). Apply a cold compress, such as ice wrapped in a towel, to your nose to reduce swelling.
- 3). Take acetaminophen to relieve pain.
- 4). See your doctor. It is important to make sure that you do not have a serious injury that could permanently damage your nose or significantly affect your ability to breathe properly.
- 5). Ask your doctor what treatment is appropriate for your injury. If your nose is not out of position, you may be able to let it heal on its own. If your nose needs to be adjusted, your doctor may reposition it in the office. Surgery may be necessary in some cases.
