    Snap Traps

    • Snap traps are the best-known mouse traps, and they remain among the best forms of trapping when you only have one or two mice to deal with. They can be placed in many locations, and they do not require toxic chemicals. They also allow for quick disposal of mice; since you place the traps within your reach, you'll be able to easily reclaim the traps and mice. Bits of cheese and small pet food pellets are among the best types of bait; place these on the trap's trigger. These traps can still be a danger to small children and pets. Place them where mice go but not in areas frequented by kids or dogs and cats.

    Glue Boards

    • Glue board traps are among the best traps for homes with small children, as they are less likely than snap traps to cause injuries. Flat trays work best, as the mice walk right onto them. They work best with bait; spreading a small bit of peanut butter on or near the traps draws the mice. Mice die slowly with these traps, however, and escape is possible. These are only recommended for homes with one or two mice.

    Poison

    • Rat poison is best used in bait block form. The poison is in small, jagged blocks on which the mice nibble. This method works well if you have several mice, as one block can take out numerous rodents. This form of trapping is also recommended for homes without pets. However, poison comes with a big risk of mice dying within walls. This not only leads to bad smells in the house, it can draw even more mice to your home.

    Live Traps

    • Live traps, also known as humane traps, are for people who do not want to kill the mice in their homes. When baited with bits of cheese or small pet food pellets, these traps lure mice inside and enclose them in a box large enough for them to move around. The trap might be accompanied by a signal, such as a bell, that rings as the mouse runs around. These require you to check them more often than other traps if you want to ensure you get to them alive. You must dispose of them yourself in a location where they won't return to your home.
