How to Troubleshoot a Sony CRT Screen That Has a White-Haze
- 1). Check the audio/video cable used to connect your Sony CRT TV to your cable or satellite receiver box. This audio/video cable has three prongs on each of its ends, and these are connected into ports on the back of the Sony TV and the receiver box. Ensure that the cord of the audio/video cable and its various prongs are not visibly damaged in any way. If it is, replace it.
- 2). Check the area around your Sony CRT screen and ensure there are no powerful devices that may be giving off electronic interference. This kind of interference can cause your Sony CRT TV to become magnetized, resulting in white-haze and related color distortions on your set. Remove any computers and other powerful electronics from the Sony TV's vicinity.
- 3). Attempt to demagnetize the screen if you suspect the screen has been magnetized but removing other devices doesn't seem to help the problem. Obtain an external degausser coil and turn it on.
- 4). Approach the screen with the coil and hold it a couple inches from the front display. Move the degausser in a slow, broad circle, taking care to cover the entire area of the CRT screen. If your Sony TV is on, you will see a rainbow colored effect on the screen.
- 5). Take a step back and repeat this process, again waving the coil in a circle. Continue moving back and waving the coil until the rainbow effect disappears from the screen. The Sony CRT screen should be demagnetized and the TV's white haze will be gone.
