How to Build Woodworking Jigs
- 1). Measure the distance from the inside edge of the blade on the circular saw to the outside edge of the base plate of the saw. Add two inches to this measurement and make a note of the measurement on a piece of paper.
- 2). Cut a plywood board to the measurement on the note for the width, with a length of 48 inches, using the circular saw. Cut a second board that is 2 inches by 48 inches.
- 3). Apply a bead of wood glue to the bottom of the 2-inch board and place it on the right side of the other cut piece of plywood. Secure the two pieces together with screws using the power drill.
- 4). Measure and mark a piece of plywood, on both ends, where it will need to be cut. Snap a the chalk line to use as a guide.
- 5). Place your new jig on the chalk line. Make sure the 2-inch edge of the jig is on the right side of the chalk line. Use a pair of clamps to secure the jig to the plywood you are going to cut.
- 6). Place the circular saw on the jig and make your cut. Release the clamps and move the jig to finish the cut. Repeat Steps 4 and 5 for any other straight-edge cuts that are needed.
