    • 1). Pull the grass, making sure to dig out and completely remove any roots. Remove Bermuda grass, which grows as runners over and under the ground, at the source of the runner.

    • 2). Spray an organic weed killer on the grass, according to package directions. Most formulas contain lemon juice, vinegar and other ingredients.

    • 3). Hand-spray household white vinegar (5 percent concentration) onto the grass if it is less than two weeks old. Spray older grass with a concentration of 15 to 30 percent. Find this under the name acetic acid.

    • 4). Cover over grass areas with a layer of newspaper about 10 to 15 sheets thick, making sure to overlap edges for large areas. Wet down the newspaper to make it stick. Cover the newspaper with mulch to hide it, if you wish.

    • 5). Sprinkle salt on the grass and pour boiling water over the top to cook the grass; salt kills the roots.
