Chrysanthemums and spider plants are among the most popular flora, chrysanthemums for their natural beauty and spider plants for how easy they are to keep alive and well. Spider plants and mums are colorful and vibrant, and common enough to be easy found in a greenhouse and lively enough to brighten their environment.

    Shasta Daisy

    • The shasta daisy is a simple chrysanthemum that is easy to grow, cut, and maintain. The shasta is low-maintenance and versatile, making it a good greenhouse plant. Chrysanthemum maximum (its scientific name) is a long-stemmed perennial that grows two to three feet tall. Its flower consists of white petals surrounding a bright yellow center. Seeds planted an eighth of an inch deep will germinate in 10 to 20 days and bloom the following spring. Shasta daisies produce a high concentration of seeds, meaning they can be easily reproduced and will proliferate quickly. This quality adds to their value as greenhouse plants.

    Spider Plant

    • South African by origin, the spider plants can be found in greenhouses and homes the world over. They're easy to grow, easy to maintain, pleasant to look at, and produce a good deal of oxygen, making them useful to have around. Chlorophytum comosum (its scientific name) is known as the spider plant because of its long, grass-like blades that grow out and hang down from the roots, resembling spider's legs. Because of its tolerance to dry and humid air, light and shaded environments, and any temperature above freezing, the spider plant is an ideal greenhouse plant. It's easy to grow, easy to keep, and sells in droves.

    Painted Daisy

    • The painted daisy, a variety of chrysanthemum, is a great greenhouse plant because it loves nothing more than sun. Set it in a sunny spot in the middle of a greenhouse and it will flourish. Painted daisies are also extremely colorful and vary greatly in size, adding great visual variety to a greenhouse. They bloom in every color other than blue, and can be as enormous as they are petite, ranging from button-sized to two feet across. Scientifically known as chrysanthemum coccineum, the painted daisy flourishes in heat and preserves its color well when cut.
