How to Kill Corn Earworms
- 1). Watch your corn crop very carefully. Wait until you see the silks start to grow on the tips of the ears of corn.
- 2). Wait about five to six days after the silks start to grow on the ears of corn.
- 3). Mix together equal parts of mineral oil and Bacillus thuringiensis, or Bt. Make sure it's Bt and not BTK, or B.t. var. kurstaki.
- 4). Add five drops of the mineral oil mixture to the top of the ear of corn, right where the silks turn a brownish color. The mineral oil blocks the larvae from reaching the silk and kernels and kills larvae that have already made it inside. Any larvae that feeds on the mineral oil mixture will also die.
