Painting Letters on Plastic
- 1). Spray glass cleaner on the plastic and wipe away any fingerprints or other residue on the plastic with a paper towel. Allow the plastic to dry completely.
- 2). Apply the adhesive letter stencil to the plastic. Your stencil may be a whole word or individual letters painted one at a time. Either way, cut around the letters or word and remove the backing. Hold the stencil by the edges, bending it slightly in a "U" shape. Touch the middle of the stencil to the plastic, then drop the edges. If the stencil isn't straight, peel it off and place it again.
- 3). Place strips of masking tape around the outer edges of the stencil.
- 4). Shake or stir the enamel or enamel acrylic paint well. Dip a small foam brush into the paint and wipe it against a piece of white paper to remove the excess.
- 5). Dab the paint on the stencil until it's evenly covered in a thin layer.
- 6). Remove the masking tape. Carefully peel the stencil off, starting at one corner and pulling the end back, not up.
- 7). Hand paint over any unwanted gaps in the paint -- for example, an "O" stencil will have unpainted areas where tabs held center oval in place. Use a very fine-tipped brush.
- 8). Allow the paint to dry as directed. Do not heat set the paint.
