How to Make Knee Breeches
- 1). Trim off the bottom of both legs of the pants at approximately midcalf with a pair of scissors.
- 2). Create a triangle in the back of both legs of the trimmed pants with the scissors. Make two cuts at the bottom of the leg, angled to meet each other at the top to create a point. The bottom of the triangle will be open. The width of the triangle depends on how tight you'd like the bottom of the breeches to be: The wider the triangle, the tighter the pants. If you do not want to adjust the tightness, a single, vertical cut will be enough.
- 3). Cuff the bottom of each leg of the pants. The length after cuffing should be just below the knee. Secure the hem in place by stitching the top of the cuff to the pants using a sewing machine.
- 4). Make 8 holes on each leg of the pants, using a fabric punch, approximately 1/2 inch apart. Start making the holes 1/2-inch from the bottom of each leg of the pants and along one side of the single cut or triangle cut. These will be buttonholes.
- 5). Sew 8 buttons onto each pants leg on the side of the triangle or single cut that does not contain any holes. Each button should be aligned with a hole.
- 6). Connect each side of the triangle or single cut by inserting the buttons into their corresponding hole.
